Biographical information
Giulio Iannello graduated in Electronic Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 1981 and received a Ph.D in Computer Science from the University of Napoli
Federico II in 1987. In 1987 he joined the Department of Information
Engineering and Applied Mathematics of the University of Salerno, where he was
a Senior Researcher until October 1992. In November 1992 he joined the
Department of Computer Science and Systems of the University of Napoli Federico
II, where he was an Associate Professor until October 2000. Since November 2000
to February 2004 he has been Full Professor at the Department of Computer
Science and Systems of the University of Napoli Federico II. Since March 2004
he is Full Professor at the University Campus Bio-Medico di Roma where is
responsible of the Research Group on Computer Systems and Medical Informatics
and member of the Board for Research, for what is concerned with the
applications of the Information and Communication Technologies in biomedical
sciences.
He has
participated and participates to several national and international research
projects. Since 1995 to 1997 he was deputy project leader of a national Project
(PRIN program) on "Methodologies and Tools for Design and Evaluation of
Parallel and Distributed Systems". Since 1998 to 1999 he was deputy
project leader of the PRIN Project on "Design Methodologies and Tools of
High Performance Systems for Distributed Applications" (MOSAICO). Since
2001 to 2003 he was leader of Workpackage 3 (Computer
Technologies for Distance Learning) in the Project "LABNET", funded
by MIUR. Since 2001 to 2006 he was leader of Workpackage
2 (Abstract System Architecture) in the National Project (FIRB program)
"Middleware for advanced services over large-scale, wired-wireless
distributed systems (WEB-MINDS)". Since 2001 to 2003 he participated to
the PRIN Project on "Quality of Service in Web Systems". Since 2004
to 2006 2006 he was local leader in the PRIN Project on "Quality and
Controllability of Communication Services over Heterogeneous Networks (QuaSAR)". Since 2008 to 2010 he participated to the
PRIN Project on "Ageing and quality of life. Developing an integrated
model of intervention for people with mental disability or behavioral
deficits".
He has
participated and participates to the European Projects NetQoS,
OneLab, TACT and to the Networks of Excellence E-Next
and CONTENT, funded by the European Commission in the VI Framework Program. In
2003 and 2005 he has received two grants from Hewlett-Packard for projects
concerning the applications of mobile wireless devices. He has been and is
responsible of several industry funded projects.
He has
been in the Advisor Board of two PhD programs at the University of Napoli
Federico II and he is currently in is the Coordinator of the PhD program in Biomedical Engineering at
the University Campus Bio-Medico di Roma. He has been and currently is the
Advisor of several PhD Theses.
His
current research interests include biomedical data, signal and image
processing, multimedia data processing, wireless and high performance computer
networks, design and analysis of parallel algorithms, performance evaluation of
parallel and distributed systems. He has published over 100 journal and
conference papers in these and related areas. He is member of several Program
Committees of international conferences and referee of international journals.
Dr. Iannello is a member of the IEEE and ACM.
